In view of the recent assault on two Nigerian students and allegations of African nationals smuggling narcotics, the consortium of autonomous management institutions, Greater Noida, has made the appeal.

Consortium president and chairman DK Garg today said, "As per AICTE norms, foreign students should be provided hostel facility inside the campus area.

"The consortium has also appealed to get the character certificates of foreign students and Indian students. Further watch is needed to ensure that students do not resort to any illegal activity," said Garg.

"Their rooms should be searched regularly. Their attendance should be checked. Their activities outside the campus too should be monitored," said Garg.

"There is possibility that some drug peddlers in the guise of students can take admission and resort to narcotics smuggling. Police should keep watch around colleges," said Garg.

"There are over 60 colleges in Greater Noida where more than 2 lakh students are studying. They are soft a target for narcotics smugglers. Young minds get diverted to drugs for short term pleasure, unaware of its health effects," he said.

Garg said college managements should ensure that students are engaged in constructive activity. Their spare time should be utilised as per their hobby. They should be involved in college activities, he said.

"Colleges should form committees and involve police officials. On suspicion of some students involvement in illegal activity, he or she should be confronted," he said.

"Their parents should be informed and such students, if they do not stop the illegal activity, should be rusticated and FIR should be lodged against them," he said.

"For harmony among the foreign and Indian students, cultural activities should be organised," said Garg.
