Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a dig at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, saying his elevation as the Grand Old Party's chief will only make BJP's job easier.
The Congress' plan to elevate him (Rahul Gandhi) as party president would only make the BJP's task for a "Congress-Mukt" or "Congress-free" India "easier", Yogi Adityanath said in Gorakhpur.
The saint-politician made these remarks a day after the Congress Working Committee cleared the decks for Rahul Gandhi's elevation as party president.
"By becoming Congress president, Rahul Gandhi will make our task to make India 'Congress-Mukt' easier," the firebrand saffron leader said.
"Congress represents a dynastic party where after Sonia ji, Rahul ji must follow," he added.
"Ek toh Congress vanshwadi party ka pratinidhitva karta hai. Soniaji ke baad Rahulji ko hi aana hai, ismey dhol peetney ki avyashakata nahi hai (Congress represents dynastic rule. It is no surprise that after Sonia Gandhi, the party will have to be led by Rahul Gandhi. What is the need to make such a hue and cry about it?" he asked while talking to reporters.
"By becoming Congress president, Rahul Gandhi will actually make our task easier to make India 'Congress-Mukt'," he quipped.
"The slogan - 'Congress-Mukt Bharat' (or 'Congress-free India') - given by Modiji during the 2014 polls will be very easy after Rahul Gandhi takes charge as Congress President," Adityanath said.
