The candidates are Sitaram Jaiswal (Gorakhpur), Rishikesh Upadhyay (Ayodhya), Pramila Pandey (Kanpur), Kanta Kardam (Meerut) and Naveen Jain (Agra).

A statement issued by the party said, "Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Mahendra Nath Pandey has declared the list of mayoral candidates for five municipal corporations in the state."

The elections will be held in three phases from November 22.

The civic polls will be a major test to gauge the public opinion on the six-month performance of the Yogi Adityanath government in the state.

The elections come in the backdrop of the government's Goods and Service Tax (GST) and demonetisation which have drawn mixed reactions from the public.
