According to media reports, CM Akhilesh Yadav was supposed to be happening at a joint event of the Congress and Samajwadi Party.

Earlier, there were reports that Samajwadi Party will form an alliance with Congress for the upcoming assembly elections in the state, however, sources have now claimed that the talks of the alliance have failed between the two.

In an another setback to the ruling party in Uttar Pradesh, Mulayam Singh Yadav loyalist Ambika Chaudhary crossed over to Mayawati's BSP, berating Akhilesh for "the shameful treatment of his father".

Accusing Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of slighting his ageing father Mulayam Singh Yadav, Chowdhary said: "It was most unfortunate and had left him heartbroken."

The ruling Samajwadi Party on Friday released its first and second lists for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, within a span of hours. A total of 209 tickets has hence been declared.

The party released two separate lists of 191 and 19 candidates for five phases of the seven-phase polling beginning on February 11.
