Mathura: A wanted criminal, carrying a reward of Rs 1.4 lakh on his head, was nabbed while his gang leader managed to flee in an encounter with the police in the wee hours of Tuesday near Badhokar drain on Barsana-Kama road here.

Acting on tip-off that the Sahun along with his gang would be passing through the Barsana-Kama road, a team of police led by Barsana SHO Udai Pratap Singh apprehended the gang, but were fired upon by the criminals, SSP Mohit Gupta said.


The encounter lasted for over half-an-hour during which Sher Khan was nabbed but the gang leader Sahun managed to escape, he said, adding Sahun is having reward of nearly Rs 1.5 lakh on his head.


"One modern carbine, one .32 bore pistol and several live cartridges were recovered from Sher Khan who was nabbed after the encounter. He is carrying a reward of Rs 1.40 lakh on his head," Gupta said.
