DNA: Why most children in orphanages of country are daughters?

Today is the ninth day of Navratri and today girls across the country are worshiped as Goddess. Are the girls in the country actually receiving this much respect and love. If this is true, then why most of the children in hundreds of orphanages in the country are daughters?
