India has requested the extradition of a suspected Mumbai gangland boss Chhota Rajan who was shot earlier this month in Bangkok, a news report said on Saturday.
“The Indian request for the deportation of Chhota Rajan was made in a letter sent to the Royal Thai police office via the two countries` Interpol departments,” the Bangkok post newspaper reported.
Thailand and India have not signed an extradition treaty. Rajan, who was travelling under the name Vijay Daman, was gunned down on September 15 in a gangster-style shootout in a Bangkok apartment belonging to his friend Rohit D`souza. D`souza was killed, but his wife and Rajan, while injured, survived. They are being treated at an undisclosed location in Bangkok under tight security.
Thai police earlier this week arrested three Pakistani nationals and one Thai on charges of murder and attempted murder in the shootout and have issued warrants for another four suspects.

According to Mumbai Interpol, Rajan is a well-known gangland figure wanted for at least 10 murders in India and Australia. A rival Bombay mafia boss reportedly hired the hitman to slay Chhota Rajan in Bangkok. Bureau Report
