The Government has ruled out attacking terrorist camps across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan as part of any "hot pursuit" policy. External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh told the Lok Sabha "hot pursuit, as it suggests, involves sending troops beyond the LoC to attack terrorist hide-outs. We are not following any such policy". The Minister made the remark while responding to a poser by Shyama Singh (Cong) whether government was contemplating "pro-active" policy to tackle cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir as was being practised by Israel to deal with similar problems. Replying to a half-an-hour discussion initiated by Shyama Singh, he said a decision to set up a Joint Working Group (JWG) on terrorism with Israel has been taken during the Jerusalem visit by Home Minister L K Advani and himself. However, there was no reference to any joint operation against terrorism in the statement issued by Advani after the Israel visit, he said. Bureau Report
