AP Assembly adjourned as heavy rains claim 75 lives
As heavy rains claimed at least seventy-five lives and rendered hundreds homeless in Andhra Pradesh, the state assembly was on Thursday adjourned for two days to enable the ministers and members to visit the affected areas for supervising relief and rescue operations.
At least seventy-five people were killed and hundreds rendered homeless as torrential rains for the past two days left a trail of death and destruction throughout the state.
In view of the devastation caused by heavy rain, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned for two days to enable the ministers and members to visit the affected areas for supervising relief and
rescue operations.
Indian Army and Air Force personnel have swung into action for
relief and rescue operations in the affected areas.
Two IAF helicopters rescued about 50 passengers perched on top of a state road transport bus which was stranded in a flooded rivulet in Guntur district. Thousands of people have been evacuated from low-lying areas to relief camps set up by the state government.
According to the weather office in Hyderabad, the heavy rains due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal continued to lash the state. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to make an aerial survey of the affected areas later in the day.
