11 bodies recovered after boat capsizes in Andhra Pradesh
A search operation is underway.
HYDERABAD: At least 11 bodies were recovered after an overloaded boat ferrying people capsized in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna River on Sunday, police said.
Over a dozen others are still reportedly missing.
A search operation is currently underway, state DGP Sambha Shiva Rao said.
The accident took place at about 5.30 PM when a private tourism boat carrying 38 people capsized near Vijayawada.
The passengers were making a trip from Punnami Ghat in Bhavanipuram to Pavitra Sangamam in Ferry village when the vessel capsized, PTI quoted an official as saying.
The personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are leading the search and rescue operation.
So far, 15 people have been rescued.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister N China Rajappa, leader of opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and others expressed grief over the tragedy.
The deputy chief minister rushed to the accident spot to oversee the rescue operations and has directed police to rush additional force to help locate the missing persons.
