Delhi pollution: Crackdown on 2 lakh heavy diesel vehicles begins

New Delhi: Starting Sunday, more than 15 years old heavy diesel vehicles will have to make a disappearing act from Delhi roads.
Nearly two lakh such diesel vehicles not only have been banned from plying on Delhi roads, they will also not be allowed to park in the city.
The state transport department has already shared the list of 1.91 lakh such heavy diesel vehicles and details of the vehicles like owner's name, registration number and address, as well as the RTO where the vehicle was registered, with the state traffic police.
The National Green Tribunal had issued orders to de-register all diesel vehicles that older than 15 years and those that only comply with BS-1 and BS-2 standards.
Violators will be issued challans under section 39/192 of the MV Act and would also have to pay a fine of Rs 2,000. Vehicles will be impounded under section 207 of the MV Act.
