Four arrested, antique idols recovered in Guntur
Police in Guntur have arrested an advocate and three of his accomplices and recovered some antique idols from them. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sudarsan Reddy, said in Guntur on Tuesday that Advocate Subbaiah Chowdary was arrested in Hyderabad on January 13 while attempting to sell a 18th century antique Panchaloha` idol worth Rs 10 lakh.
During interrogation, Chowdary revealed that he along with his accomplices had stolen idols of Rama, Lakshman and Seetha on the night of December 30 from a temple at Yanamadala village.
Acting on the information, Guntur Police seized two more idols and arrested the three associates of Chowdary on Tuesday, Sudarsan said.
A car that was used for transporting the idols to Hyderabad was also impounded, he added.
