On Saturday, new large fires were reported in the northern rockies, eastern great basin, western great basin, rocky mountain and northwest areas. For the year, fires have burned a total of 1.6 million hectares across the country. The wildfires mostly started when lightning struck dry vegetation.
The national interagency coordination center mobilised aircraft and crews such as the 3rd battalion 5th marines, who underwent their first day of training and were issued gear at camp Pendleton, California.
Eight Canadian firefighting teams are expected to help reinforce US crews were not yet in operation but their schedule is yet to be known. Meanwhile, the long-term outlook for the weather is still very unfavourable.
