Senior Congress leader Madhavrao Scindia has dismissed suggestions that Sonia Gandhi has turned out to be a failure as leader of the opposition and predicted that the next elections would demonstrate the effectiveness of the congress role as the main opposition. We are doing a satisfactory job. There is always a period of honeymoon (for any government) which is petering out. Reality of marriage is sinking in, Scindia, who is deputy leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, said in an interview to BBC. Refuting the suggestion that the congress under Gandhi's leadership had failed to make any dent on the BJP-led coalition on any major issue except the RSS matter, he said the next elections would demonstrate whether the congress had damaged the NDA government or not. To a question that Sonia's leadership was the best guarantee for the survival of the Vajpayee government, Scindia said reality on the ground will prove you wrong. Disagreeing with the view that absence of a credible leader at the top was affecting the congress, he said that Gandhi was a unifying factor in the organisation and was the biggest crowd puller, which is important in a democracy.
