Bangladesh appoints a new army chief
Major Gen. Harounur Rashid will take over as the chief of Bangladesh army next week, the defence ministry said on Monday.

Gen. Rashid, chief of general staff, will replace Lt. Gen Mustafizur Rahman, who retires on December 23.
Rashid's appointment was approved by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Sunday, the ministry said.
Rashid holds a Pir Pratik, or symbol of hero award, for gallantry during Bangladesh's 1971 independence war against Pakistan.
