According to Indianexpress.com, the film was leaked online by Tamilrockers, a site which is known for hosting pirated movies. The same site previously leaked ambitious Tamil outing 'Sarkar' featuring Vijay in the lead role. Soon after that Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) released a statement saying that the site must be prevented from hosting pirated versions of new films.

After 'Thugs of Hindostan' was leaked online, several fans urged the makers to take action against the site.

The YRF production received a lukewarm response from the audiences and critics alike.

'Thugs of Hindostan' features Aamir Khan in the lead role besides Amitabh Bachchan in a pivotal part. Fatima Sana Shaikh and Katrina Kaif play female leads in the period drama by Yash Raj Films. The venture is helmed by 'Dhoom 3' helmer Vijay Krishna Acharya.

The film marks the first outing of Aamir and Big B together.
