Amitabh Bachchan`s tweet brilliantly explains why `Padmaavat` controversy should have never happened
Padmaavat will finally see the light of the day on January 25, 2018.
New Delhi: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan is a man of few words so when he talks you better take note of it. Hindi cinema's legendary star has the maximum followers on Twitter when it comes to Indian celebrities. So, you can well imagine the kind of impact he has on his fan army.
Big B, who is an avid Twitter user, recently shared his thoughts on the micro-blogging site and wrote: “Inside a darkened hall to see a film we never ask what the caste, creed, colour, religion of person sitting next to us is .. yet we watch the same film laugh at the same joke, cry at the same emotion, sing the same songs .. in a disintegrating world, cinema integrates !”
Although the megastar has not named any film, in particular, one can't help but relate this to the ongoing controversy surrounding Padmaavat. His thought brilliantly echoes the tussle involving filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama Padmaavat. The film faced a nationwide protest and resistance from fringe groups demanding a ban on the release of the venture.
Rajput community Shri Karni Sena accused the filmmaker of wrongly presenting the titular character of Rani Padmini and claimed that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has distorted historical facts. All of this hullaballoo without really watching the film. Death threats were issued to the filmmaker and the lead actress Deepika Padukone demanding a full ban on the release of the film.
However, after braving all the odds, Padmaavat got a green signal from the Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) and will finally see the light of the day on January 25, 2018. After Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana stalled the film release, the makers were left with no choice but to seek Supreme Court's intervention.
The SC ruled out in the favour of the film producers stating that no state has the right to impose a ban on the movie. Following the apex court breather to the movie makers, a plea challenging the order was filed by lawyer Manohar Lal Sharma.
However, the SC refused to admit a plea which claimed that the Censor Board certificate issued to historical drama Padmaavat was illegal.
