As per a report in the Hindustan Times, Delhi government is contemplating a plan wherein passengers will have to compensate auto-rickshaws for the delay in reaching the destination owing to traffic jam.

The government may install new meters in auto-rickshaws to calculate the waiting period in traffic.

However, as per the government version, this move has been contemplated to deter auto-rickshaw drivers from refusing to take commuters.

The paper further said that the transport department “has directed its transport and traffic consultant Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd (DIMTS) to prepare a proposal on how the ‘waiting charges’ could be included electronically in the meters installed in the three-wheelers.”
