New Delhi: Ford India Friday slashed prices of EcoSport by up to Rs 1.12 lakh, two days after Maruti Suzuki launched its compact SUV Vitara Brezza with price starting at Rs 6.99 lakh.

Applicable with immediate effect, the petrol variants of the Ford EcoSport will be available from Rs 6.68 lakh onwards and the diesel trims starting from Rs 7.28 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), Ford India said in a statement.


The company has cut the price of base variant of petrol option of the vehicle by over Rs 53,000 and is now priced at Rs 6.68 lakh, down from Rs 7.22 lakh earlier. The top-end of petrol variant price has also been slashed by Rs 87,000 to Rs 9.45 lakh from earlier Rs 10.32 lakh.


Similarly, in the diesel option, the base variant will be cheaper by Rs 1.12 lakh at Rs 7.28 lakh as against Rs 8.41 lakh earlier. The top-end model of the diesel option will see a price cut of Rs 1.12 lakh at Rs 9.75 lakh from Rs 10.87 lakh.


Ford India Executive Director (Marketing, Sales and Service) Anurag Mehrotra said: "Ford EcoSport has always been recognised for its strong value proposition and this realignment further strengthens that proposition."


He further said: "With enhanced value for money proposition, we are extending its appeal across segments, including Rs 6?8 lakh price band which has been growing at 40 percent since 2013."


On Tuesday, market leader Maruti Suzuki India had launched its much-awaited compact SUV Vitara Brezza at an introductory price range of Rs 6.99 lakh and Rs 9.68 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), kicking off a price war in the compact SUV segment.


In the first two days of launch, MSI has garnered 5,600 bookings.
