New Delhi, Sept 23: The National Council of Churches in India (NCCI) today hailed the court verdict awarding death sentence to prime accused Dara Singh and life sentence to twelve others for murdering Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two minor sons. Describing Dara Singh as "a creation of the hate campaign carried by fundamentalist forces", General Secretary of the Nagpur-based council reverend Ipe Joseph, said in a statement here that the judgement has got far reaching implications in curbing growing religious fanaticism in the country. Referring to recent judicial pronouncements in the best bakery case and on the demolition of the disputed structure in Ayodhya, he said the courts have played a "prophetic and challenging role" in preserving communal harmony in the recent past.
