The Renault Kwid hatchback has taken Indian markets by storm, helping Renault post six-fold growth in July this year. And, to address concerns about the lack of power in its 800cc entry-level offering, the French manufacturer is going to launch the 1.0-litre avatar of the Kwid later this month, bookings for which have kicked off unofficially.

Dealerships across Mumbai are accepting a sum of Rs 10,000 as token amount for booking the more powerful Kwid. The waiting period though is expected to stretch to up to 3 months. A source also confirmed that the launch would take place around the last week of August and the price for the top-end model of the car would be around Rs 50,000 higher than its 0.8-litre counterpart.

The highest RXT Opt trim of the 800cc car sets one back by a total of Rs 4.5 lakh (on-road price). So it is safe to imagine that the fully loaded Kwid 1.0-litre would cost around the Rs 5 lakh-mark. On the other hand, the base model could burn a hole worth around Rs 4 lakh (on road) in your pocket.

The carmaker from Boulogne had showcased the more powerful Kwid at the 2016 Auto Expo in February earlier this year. At the heart of the car is a new 1.0-litre engine whose four valves per cylinder DOHC layout has been tuned to ensure low pressure drop and efficient valve lift for higher air filling.

Not too long ago, Renault India CEO and managing director, Sumit Sawhney had confirmed that the 1.0-litre Kwid will be launched in August, with an AMT version of the car to follow soon.
