New Delhi: The controversial Noida-based startup, Ringing Bells Pvt Ltd will start delivery its Rs 251 smartphone, the Freedom 251 from June 30, and not June 28 as reported earlier.

According to reports, 200,000 units of Freedom 251 phones will be delivered starting June 30 till July 5.

But will it be delivered to the first 2 lakh registrations? Likely not as the company is planning delivery state-wise lucky draw to ensure that the device reaches India equally.

“We got the highest number of registrations from UP and so we will have a draw, about 2.5 crore, and so after a lucky draw about 10,000 users from the state will get the device,” Tech 2 quoted Mohit Goel, CEO of Ringing Bells as saying.

Earlier, it was reported that Ringing Bells would start the delivery of the world's cheapese smartphone by June 28.

"We will start shipment of Freedom251 from June 28 to customers who paid for it earlier on COD (cash-on-delivery) basis," PTI quoated the CEO as saying.

But now, as per IANS, the company has promised deliveries from June 30.

“We are ready with nearly two lakh ‘Freedom 251’ handsets. We will start delivery from June 30,” Goel was quoted as saying by the agency.

Earlier, after the much hype launched in February following which about 5 crore were said to have registered for the 25 lakh available handsets, Ringing Bells had announced that the deliveries would start in April and end on June 30.

Considering the changed in delivery date for the third time, one wonders if June 30 is the final date.
