New Delhi: Despite the charges of fraud and cheating slapped against Ringing Bells, the company has not deviated from its plans of selling Freedom 251, the world's cheapest mobile phone.
The sellers of Freedom 251 received a major relief from the Allahabad High Court on Friday in the case of cheating filed against it under the section 420 of IPC.
The division bench, comprising of Justice B. K. Narayan and Justice R. N. Mishra said that the offence of section 420 of IPC may not be valid for the charges against the company. The bench also ruled that no coercive steps should be taken against Ringing Bells Pvt. Ltd until the next hearing, adding that the company should be given a chance to fulfill their commitment.
Ringing Bells had launched the most affordable phone Freedom 251 in February, and had seen huge response to the device, while drawing criticism from the industry on the pricing front.
Reacting to the Allahabad high Court's verdict, Abhishek Vikram, counsel for Ringing Bells said that the company has already developed innovative strategy to meet the promised cost of the handset and for delivering the smartphone at just Rs 251 to its customers.
