New Delhi: Manmohan Singh, a farmer in Pilibhit is troubled these days as his two accounts with the local branch of Bank of Baroda has been frozen by the Mumbai office of the nationalised bank.

His mistake? The Mumbai office of Bank of Baroda has identified Manmohan Singh as one of the guarantors of Vijay Mallya, the business tycoon, who is facing huge loan defaults and investigation by Enforcement Directorate for a money laundering case.

"I do not understand how this happened. I do not know anything about Mallya and have never visited Mumbai in my life. Because the bank froze my accounts, I can't avail any government-sponsored scheme. I was forced to sell my entire wheat crop to private traders at very low prices. I could not get MSP because payment for that is directly made to the bank account, which in my case is frozen," Singh said, talking to The Times of India

Singh has been allegedly deprived of banking facilities and all government-sponsored schemes. Even all the other banks in the area are not ready to open another account for him.

Singh said that he has written to the Mumbai branch of the Bank of Baroda clarifying his position, but has not heard from them or got any relief so far.
