New Delhi: On the advice of the Enforcement Directorate, Ministry of External Affairs on Friday suspended the diplomatic passport of Vijay Mallya . But will the move help the Enforcement Directorate in pressurising Vijay Mallya to return to India?

Let us look at the options the liquor baron has with himself:

>>The government may revoke or impound Vijay Mallya’s diplomatic passport. He would become a persona non-grata and the UK government may ask him to leave the country.

>>May apply for Indefinite Leave to remain in UK, and comply with the UK law that will which will allow him to stay as a businessman provided he has business in the country with minimum investment of 200,000 pounds.

>>Though not likely, Mally may challenge the decision of the Ministry of External Affairs.

>>Mallya may become some other country's citizen and continue to evade Indian investigative agencies.

>>And finally, may reconcile and return to India, sell of some of the assets and negotiate with the banks with whom he has defaulted and clear his company and dues.
