Jaipur, June 11: Taking a tough stand over inefficient functioning of power distribution companies, the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission has directed them to cut losses both in administrative expenditures and in transmission and distribution of electricity. Revising the annual revenue requirement of all the three distribution companies, the commission said it would keep a watch on monthly purchase of electricity, its sale to consumers, and the targets of transmission and distribution losses, an official release said here.
Expressing concern over vast difference between revenue and expenditure of the distribution companies, he said they must seriously make efforts to improve their efficiencies and reduce losses.
The commission also asked the government to pay the power companies full amount of subsidy to improve their financial position.
The commission approved for the current financial year revenue deficit of Rs.159.31 crores, after government subsidy, for Jaipur Discom, Rs.166.91 crores for Ajmer Discom, and Rs.247.56 crores for Jodhpur.
The regulatory body directed the power distribution companies to bring down transmission and distribution losses to 20 per cent by the year 2007.
It asked the three companies to prepare a scheme within two months to control theft of electricity by agricultural consumers. Bureau Report
