Kolkata, Aug 18: Mohun Bagan, endeavouring to rejuvenate its soccer ambitions despite facing factional feuds and a FIFA punishment, has roped in Godrej as its second sponsor and plans to hold residential training camp for players to improve their fitness level.
"We have finalised talks with Godrej as the club`s second
sponsor. The company will not provide the players` kits but
pour in funds as a second sponsor," Bagan assistant secretary
Balaram Chowdhury told here.
The club, having the UB group as its main sponsor, was expected to sign an agreement soon in this regard.
Besides, the club has planned to hold a residential camp at Sports Authority of India complex here to enhance the fitness level of the players, as per the advice of the new Brazilian fitness trainer Robson Matos de Olivera.
"The 15-day long residential camp will begin on August 19 at the SAI complex. The players along with the fitness trainer will stay in the camp and undergo practice there till September two," he said.
The camp, however, was apparently aimed at fine tuning the squad before the derby clash against arch rivals East Bengal on September four in a Kolkata super division league match.
Asked about the FIFA punishment, slapped on the club for not clearing dues of Nigerian recruit Isha Musah last year, Chowdhury said "an executive committee meeting will be held on next Tuesday to discuss the matter".
