Bangalore, Oct 25: Opposition parties in Karnataka yesterday sought to isolate the government on the Cauvery issue, severely criticising Chief Minister SM Krishna for "politicising" the matter. Speaking to PTI, BJP's State Unit President Basavaraj Patil Sedam, JD (U)'s floor leader in the assembly, PGR Sindhis and JD (S) State General Secretary C Narayanaswamy targetted Krishna, dubbing his recent Padayatra on the issue as "politically modivated". They charged the Congress government with failing to properly plead the state's case on Cauvery. "People have lost their confidence in this government. Where was the need for the Chief Minister to go on a Padayatra. He is politicising the issue," they said. Sedam said the Padayatra had "damaged" the state's interests before law and found fault with the government for taking a decision on not releasing water to Tamil Nadu within the Cabinet rather than fighting its case out with the Cauvery River Authority. Narayanaswamy said there used to be unanimity of views across the political spectrum as far as issues pertaining to boundary and water were concerned, but that "goodwill" has now been lost following Krishna's Padayatra.

Flaying the government for "inefficient handling" of the issue, he said "Krishna has betrayed the opposition."
