New Delhi: What could be highly disappointing for some central government employees, government has abolished a number of interest free advances like leave salary advance, or festival advances, which are generally needed to cope with the immediate rise in monthly expense due to an occasion.

The Finance Ministry Order listed out interest-free allowances retained and abolished as follows:

List of allowances that are retained: Interest-free Advances for Medical Treatment, Travelling Allowance for family of deceased, Travelling Allowance on tour or transfer and Leave Travel Concession shall be retained.

List of allowances that are discontinued are: Pay on Transfer Advance, Advance of Leave Salary, Festival Advance, Bicycle Advance, Warm clothing Advance, Hindi course Advance, Advance for Law Suit, Natural Calamity Advance.

There is a general demand from the JCM-Staff Side to increase all interest-free advances to three times their present value.

These orders will take effect from the date of issue of this O.M. The cases where the advances have already been sanctioned need not be reopened, added the Order.
