Jodhpur, May 27: Rajasthan Brahmin Mahasabha, spearheading for reservation of poor Brahmins under other backward class category, today rejected the decision of the Gehlot government on quota for upper caste on economic basis. The Rajasthan government's declaration is nothing but an attempt to 'befool' the Brahmin community and was aimed at gaining political milegae during the election year, Mahasabha president Hastimal Saraswat said in a statement here.

Our demand is to include socially and economically backward Brahmins in OBC category which the state government itself can do, he said in the statement. "But instead of doing so, Gehlot had been advocating 14 per cent reservation for upper castes on purely economic basis keeping the quota for the reservation for SC, ST and OBC through amendment of the constitution, Saraswat said.

The Mahasabha will submit another memorandum to the chief minister hoping that 'good sense' will prevail on him, the statement added.
