Algiers, Jun 02: A new aftershock has rattled the Algerian town of Zemmouri, east of the capital, less than two weeks after more than 2,200 people died in a massive earthquake in the region, the Algerian Center for Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics said today. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The aftershock in Zemouri, which happened at 2254 GMT (0424 IST) yesterday measured 3.8 degrees on the Richter Scale. Earlier, an aftershock of 4.0 degrees was felt in the capital Algiers, 70 kilometers away. More than 1,000 aftershocks have hit the Algiers region since May 21, when there was a huge quake measuring 6.8 degrees on the Richter Scale. Nearly 2,270 people were killed, over 10,000 injured and 80,000 left homeless. Bureau Report
