Bangalore, Sept 27: Fissures within VHP over a solution to the Ayodhya issue came to the fore today with a senior Ram Janambhoomi movement leader urging the Centre to convince Hindus and Muslims of a proposal to build a mosque near the Ram temple "irrespective" of the Parishad's stand. Regretting that VHP had not agreed to his "formula" which provided for building a mosque "a little away" from the temple on the undisputed land, member of VHP's apex decision making body 'Margdarshak Mandal' senior pontiff of Pejewar Mutt Sri Vishvesha Teertha Swami said "irrespective of what VHP says", government should bring Muslim and Hindu leaders together and convince them about the new solution. "Even if VHP does not agree and if Muslims agree, it is fine," the Swami. A member of the VHP-backed Ram Janambhumi Nyas, said adding even if the Sangh Parivar outfit later opposed construction of the mosque a little distance away from the temple, they would "not get any support". Muslims and their leaders should consider the Archaeological Survey of India excavation report and come forward for an amicable settlement, while Hindus should not "adamantly" ask Muslims to construct the mosque further away from "The Panchakroshi", he said. The Pontiff said he had informed Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi of his proposal and the latter had called it "appropriate" and assured him that he would talk to Muslim leaders about it.
