Coimbatore, July 27: Anxious moments prevailed at Walayar, on Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, from early today, following leakage in a gas tanker, disrupting traffic on either side for over one hour.
Fire services in the city received an emergency call at around 4.30 am seeking help to plug the leakage of the tanker coming from Kerala.
The fire personnel, who rushed to the spot, about 35 kms from here, found crack in the welded part of one of three valves of the tanker and could not be locked.
Leakage was temporarily plugged by placing clay-filled bags on the top and the tanker was sent back to the plant near Kanjikode in Kerala for emptying, fire service sources said.
Considering the sensitivity, traffic on either side of the border remained standstill for nearly one hour. However, later vehicles were diverted via Velanthavalam to ease the congestion, police said.
