New Delhi: The BSE benchmark Sensex regained the key 28,000-mark by rising over 200 points in early trade Thursday taking positive cues from the global markets.


The 30-share index last quoted 183.42 points or 0.66 percent higher at 28,167.79 after moving in range of 28,209.38 - 28,031.57.


The NSE Nifty too quoted up by 56.05 points or 0.65 percent at 8,715.15.


In Asia, key indices were trading in green boosted by strong US earnings and rising oil prices, nearly a 15-month high.


Japan`s Nikkei 225 was trading in green, up 1.02 percent, Hang Seng up by 0.71 percent while South Korea`s Kospi was marginally down by 0.04 percent. China`s Shanghai Composite index was also quoting in red, down by 0.10 percent.


Overnight, the Nasdaq, on Wednesday, closed in green, up by 0.05 percent while FTSE inched up by 0.31 percent.
