Beijing, Mar 30: China's publishing authority has warned that the Chinese version of Newsweek, Forbes and Harvard Business Review could be banned for illegal entry into the market, the state media reported. "We have not approved any of these three American periodicals for publication in the Chinese mainland on their own or through copyright co-operation with a domestic publishing house," the director of the State Press and Publication Administration's (SPPA) foreign exchange and co-operation department, Wang Huapeng said.
"If these periodicals were launched on the Chinese mainland without permission from the SPPA, punishment under the laws and regulations will be meted out," Wang warned.

Earlier reports from Hong Kong newspapers said the three elite American magazines had acquired permission from the Chinese government to enter the Chinese mainland market in the form of monthly periodicals.
All foreign publications must first acquire approval from the SPPA, China's watchdog over the media, before being distributed in china, according to regulations, 'China Daily' reported.

But the three American magazines have not submitted any application for approval so far, so their appearance on the mainland market is illegal, an administration official said. Bureau Report
