Kabul, July 11: A bomb exploded near a movie theater in south-eastern Afghanistan, a security official said today. There were no casualties. No one claimed responsibility for the attack yesterday in khost. But Mohammed Dawd, The Chief Of Security For The Khost Provincial Governor, blamed Taliban fugitives, who have also been accused of regularly attacking US-led coalition forces in the area. The former Taliban regime practiced a radical and strict form of Islam that outlawed most entertainment, including movies, music and photography. The Taliban were ousted in the US-led coalition's war on terror in 2001. However, in recent months there have been stepped up attacks by suspected Taliban fugitives, Al-Qaida and loyalists of renegade rebel leader, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. Yesterday's attack was the second against a movie theater in recent weeks. On June 27, assailants tossed a grenade into a theater in southern Helmand province, a former Taliban stronghold where attacks against coalition forces and foreign aid workers have taken place. Three Afghan guards nearby were wounded.
