Tiruchirapalli, July 06: Tamil Nadu unit of the Samata Party today condemned Karnataka government for its "Nammuru Bhandhara" scheme, which it said would restrict water flows into Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at the state
executive committee meeting held here today.
The resolution said the proposal to build dams and barrages under the scheme only showed the "avariciousness" of Karnataka and asked that state not to go ahead with the scheme without the concurrence of the central government. In a separate resolution, the party's executive committee also condemned Kerala government for its allegation that Tamil Nadu had violated the inter-state Parambikulam-Aliyar irrigation agreement.
The resolution said when the inter-state agreement was functioning smoothly, the Congress government in Kerala should not make allegations. By way of another resolution, the executive said it would whole-heartedly support only Defence Minister George Fernandes to be the party chief.
Yet another resolution said in the coming Lok Sabha polls, the party unit would field 10 candidates.
