According to ANI, the NDMA said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in parts of south Tamil Nadu during next 48 hours.

Heavy rains recently lashed Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu, forcing the authorities to order the closure of schools in these districts.

The three cities had witnessed a heavy rainfall earlier too.

Schools in Chennai and a few other coastal districts of Tamil Nadu were earlier this month closed for a week due to incessant rains.

The situation forced the Chennai Municipal Corporation to set up a control room to monitor situation and help people throughout the north-east monsoon period.

Residents were requested to call on 044-2536 7823, 2538 4965, 2538 3694 for any rain-related assistance from the civic body.

It's helpline 1913 received several complaints.
