CHENNAI: Several places in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands are likely to receive heavy to moderate rainfall on Tuesday, said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Fishermen have been warned not venture to go deep into the Bay of Bengal sea.

Cyclone Ockhi, which has now moved to Gujarat and Maharashtra coasts, left behind a trail of destruction in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshwadeep islands. At least 19 people lost their lives, while several are still missing. Over 700 people, including 357 fishermen, have been rescued during combined operations by Coast Guard, Indian Navy and Air Force.


“A well marked low pressure area lies over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea. It is very likely to become a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours and further intensify into a deep depression during subsequent 48 hours. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards towards north Tamilnadu - south Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 3 days,” said the IMD.


The sea conditions are likely to rough till December 6, 2017 in the three states. 


As Cyclone Ockhi making its way towards Mumbai, the city braced up for more rains. Authorities are gearing up to tackle the emergency situation. While schools in Mumbai metropolitan region have already been asked to remain shut, the Western Railways has also pulled up its socks.


The engineering control of the Western Railways has been kept on alert to keep a watch on water level over railway tracks.
