New Delhi: After four years of trial, the Gurgaon court, hearing the Maruti Manesar violence case, in which a manager was set on fire, convicted 31 people while it acquitted 117 others.

The quantum of punishment will be announced later today.


Avnish Dev, 51, General Manager, Human Resources of the company was burnt alive and nearly 100 others injured on the evening of July 18, 2012 when agitating workers went on a rampage, attacking officials and torching the office.


The company sacked 2,500 workers after the violence and the plant was closed for over a month.


The plant is now functioning with new staff.
