Lyon, who was overshadowed by Steve O'Keefe in the Pune Test, came to the fore with a brilliant spell of spin against Indian batsmen, who are regarded as the best players of turning ball.

The 29-year-old off-spinner accounted for the wickets of Cheteshwar Puajara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, R Ashwin, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul and Ishant Sharma.

In the process, he also overtook Brett Lee's as the leading Aussie wicket-taker against India.

Lee had 53 wickets, and Lyon now has 57 scalps.

India were eventually bowled out for 189.
