Prasad had resigned in March earlier this year in order to take up a coaching role at Indian Premier League side Kings XI Punjab. Not long after he had been appointed bowling coach of the Punjab-based franchise.

"Mr. Aashish Kapoor has replaced Mr. Venkatesh Prasad in the three-member All-India Junior Selection Committee. The other two members of the selection panel include Mr. Gyanendra Pandey and Mr. Rakesh Parikh," the release said.

Acting president of the BCCI, CK Khanna welcomed the arrival of the former spinner effusively. “I wish him all the very best in this endeavour. I am sure he has a lot to offer when it comes to being a part of the junior selection committee with his varied expertise and experience in the game. India have a rich talent pool and it is important to identify the talent at a young age and nurture them," the release quoted Khanna as saying.

47-year-old Kapoor featured in four Tests and 17 ODIs for India from 1994-2000 and took 14 wickets in all.

He also played 128 first-class games and 93 List A matches, appearing for the following teams: Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Tripura. He was part of the Indian team that reached the 1996 World Cup semi-final.
