But, a certain Ajinkya Rahane stood up to do a Dhoni in the chase, by finishing it off with a six off the bowling of Punjab skipper Glenn Maxwell. For many fans, it's Dhoni's right to finish games. But today, most of them will settle with the fact that Dhoni can't be everywhere.

In a do-or-die match, RPS captain Steve Smith won the toss and opted to bowl first at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. His call proved a masterstroke as Pune bowlers dismissed the visitors for 73 runs inside the 16th over.

Then, the home side chased down the target in 12 overs to register a thumping nine-wicket win. The win helped RPS finish second in the table, behind Mumbai Indians, and secured the play-off spot.

Rahane, opening the innings, was unbeaten on 34 off 34 balls. He posted a 41-run opening stand with Rahul Tripathi, who made 28 off 20 balls. Skipper Smith was unbeaten on 15 off 18.
