New Delhi: The third Test match between India and Australia started on Thursday in Ranchi with the visitors batting first after winning the toss.

The decision from Steve Smith was expected, as it has become a trend to bat first in India in Test. Then, there was also conspiracy theory that India doctored the Ranchi picth.


Much of the pre-match talk was devoted to the importance of pitch, with the Aussie camp once again blaming Indian curators for doctoring it.


But Brett Lee and Sunil Gavaskar, during their live commentary for Star Sports, termed the pitch a good one, typical Indian one.

During the Lunch break, hosts Mayanti Langar's first question to Aakash Chopra was on the nature of the the pitch.


Chopra responded, saying "Life is a pitch", to the laughter of everyone, including VVS Laxman.

Australia started well, scoring runs in a brisk pace. They raced to fifty inside 10 overs, and there's no awkward turn or bounce.


Laxman termed the pitch a perfect Indian top.
