  • Controversy in the middle. Mandeep Singh takes a low diving catch to dismiss Gaikwad off Bishnoi. The soft signal was out with Kings XI kicking-off wild celebrations but the third umpire Chris Gaffney looks at the replay and reverses the original decision. Mandeep seemed to have taken the support of the ground to hold on to the ball - according to Gaffney. Skipper KL Rahul is not happy at all. • Two good overs for CSK. Gaikwad who was struggling earlier on, comes down the track and hits a huge six over deep midwicket againt Chris Jordan. Jordan gives 11 from his opening over. In Jimmy Neesham's next over, Faf du Plessis is dropped by Hooda who got hold of it but couldn't hang on and the ball pops out of his hand. It would have been a blinder catch if it was completed. du Plessis responds by hitting the very next ball over the keeper's head for six with an astonishing reverse scoop. CSK: 32/0 (4 Overs)

  • Steady start from CSK. du Plessis just manages to hit a four to deep point in the opening over from Neesham. Shami starts off brilliantly with four dot balls to Gaikwad but then bowls a horrific ball - a wide which goes for four down the leg-side to take the bite off his over. Still only 5 come from it and Gaikwad is stuttering at 1 off 9 balls. CSK: 11/0 (2 Overs)

  • OUT!! WICKET!! Just when this partnership had started to get going, Jadeja does the damage as he cleans up Mandeep Singh with a skiddy angling in delivery - disturbing the stumps. Ngidi has dismissed both the openers. KXIP: 62/2 (9 Overs)

  • CSK are mounting a fine comeback here. They have allowed just 8 runs in the previous two overs from Thakur and Tahir. Gayle is taking things slowly at the moment and is trying to settle-in first while Rahul is playing the role of the sheet anchor. KXIP: 61/1 (8 Overs)

Chennai Super Kings have beaten Kings XI Punjab by 9 wickets. KXIP are thus, out of the playoffs contention for IPL 2020.

Earlier, CSK won the toss and opted to bowl against KXIP. KXIP posted 153/6 from their 20 Overs.

Kings XI Punjab lost their first game after a fantastic run which saw them win five games on the trot. It was Rajasthan Royals who put a full stop on that run as they defeated them by 7 wickets.

The battle for the playoffs is heating up with four teams sitting on 12 points with only the net run-rate deciding their position on the points table.

Kings XI Punjab must win this one otherwise their chances of sealing the playoffs berth will be dependent on the other results and they wouldn’t want it to go down the wire.

Chennai Super Kings are the only team who are officially out of the playoffs race and ever since going out, they have looked better and better. They are playing freely and have thrown caution to the wind - winning their last two games in convincing fashion.

Coming back to Kings XI, their bowling let them down in their last outing as they couldn’t defend a solid total of 185. Chris Gayle was unfortunate to miss out on a well-deserved century - getting bowled by Archer on 99.

Their campaign has been slightly hampered by the injury to in-form opener Mayank Agarwal however, his replacement Mandeep Singh has done well and Gayle has made the number three spot his own - going from strength to strength.

They wouldn’t be too bothered by the result in the last game as it still was a very good performance albeit with a few bad moments at crucial junctures.

Although they would start as the favourites against MS Dhoni-led CSK, they need to be vary of the threat posed by the three time champions, who are now playing for their pride and have nothing to lose.

It’s Kings XI Punjab vs Chennai Super Kings in a high stakes clash that promises to be an all-out nail-biter.
