Najeeb (25) is allegedly the president of the AAP youth wing in Jaffrabad. The party has, however, denied any connection with him.

His five other associates have also been arrested.

The incident took place in Krishna Gali, Maujpur, on March 12. As per the victim, Vipul Jain, who is a businessman, he was robbed of his bag containing Rs 25 lakh, a mobile phone and other documents at gunpoint.

A passer-by also sustained gunshot injuries as the gang members fired shots.

One of the accused was caught by passers-by from the spot, police said. His associates including Najeeb, who managed to escape from the spot, were later arrested.

Police have recovered Rs 16,06,000, a country-made pistol, a motorcycle stolen by them.

"They have revealed their involvement in more than 20 other cases of robberies and snatching in the areas of Civil Lines, Bada Hindu Rao, Pushta Usmanpur, Seelampur, Jaffrabad and Dilshad Garden," a police officer said.

Further investigation is going on in the matter.

Meanwhile, Vandana Singh, AAP youth wing in-charge, said: "The accused is not our office-bearer. He has nothing to do with our youth wing. Delhi Police always tries to find AAP connection everywhere.”

Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said that the reported arrest of Najeeb and his accomplices shows that the "party has become an abode of anti-social elements".

Tiwari said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal owes an explanation to the people of Delhi as to what action he is taking against Najeeb or the other MLAs who are accused in other cases.
