Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday registered three cases against self-styled godman Virendra Dev Dixit for allegedly sexually abusing women and minors.
The Delhi police rescued 41 teenage girls from Dixit's Adhyatmik Vishwa Vidyalaya Ashram in Rohini during a raid on December 21, 2017.
Dixit had allegedly imprisoned several girls at the so-called spiritual campus, sexually abusing and torturing them. The police also seized several objectionable items during the raid.
Delhi Women Commission chief Swati Maliwal later claimed that letters containing "explicit content" written to the female inmates by Dixit were also recovered during the raid.
Buoyed by complaints of rape and sexual abuse, the police then raided two more ashrams run by Dixit at Uttar Pradesh's Siktarbad and Kampil, where 47 women and a minor girl were rescued.
Three girls were also rescued from the Indore ashram in Madhya Pradesh. Two of the rescued are minors.
The Delhi High Court has ordered a CBI investigation into the matter and slammed the Delhi Police for not taking any action on various FIRs of girls and women allegedly lured to an ashram in Rohini area on the pretext of spiritual guidance and raped there.
Dixit is on the run ever since the raids on his national capital-based ashrams last week.
