The 11-member panel will conduct a research on the compliance of various instructions issued by the Supreme Court and governments to prevent the sale of acid.

It will draft a legislation for banning the sale of acid and prepare a model programme for the rehabilitation of acid attack survivors and bringing them into the mainstream, said a DCW official.

The panel will study the best practices and policies in the country or abroad for their rehabilitation, the official said.

"The committee will have a tenure of three months. It will submit its report to the Commission, which will send its recommendations to the government," DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said.

Besides Maliwal, the committee includes senior Supreme Court lawyers Rebecca John and Aparna Bhatt.
