New Delhi: One person was killed and another injured when a speeding Mercedes car rammed into the deceased`s fruit cart in a hit-and-run case here, police said on Monday.
The accident took place on Sunday night at around 11.54 p.m at Dwarka`s Ganpati Chowk.
"The victim, identified as Sarvesh, 35, and an injured, Inder, 30, were fruit sellers. They were returning from a weekly market. When they reached Ganpati Chowk, a speeding Mercedes lost control and rammed them," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anto Alphonse said.
"Sarvesh was declared dead in the hospital. Inder, who suffered critical injuries, is undergoing treatment," Alphonse said.
A Mercedes Benz logo was found at the accident spot, the DCP added.
The police are examining CCTV footage to identify the car and errant driver.
"The police have also alerted all service centres of the area including Mercedes Benz to inform them in case any accidental car comes to them for repairing," he added.
According to a senior traffic officer, accident like this generally is happens if the driver is either drunk or under the influence of some kind of intoxication. As rave parties are frequently organised during winter season, the police are suspecting that the accused driver may have been intoxicated.
