PM Modi to attend DigiDhan Mela in Delhi today, to launch new app making cashless payments easier

New Delhi: The government is on full drive making all out efforts in bringing down digital divide among common citizens, and PM Modi is at the forefront of it.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the DigiDhan mela, which is being organised in Talkatora stadium, Delhi, on Friday. Modi tweeted that he will launch a mobile app that will bring digital payments closer to common man:
The first DigiDhan Mela (fair) was organised in Gurugram, Haryana, on Monday and was inaugurated by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
The purpose of DigiDhan Mela is take the process of digital payments closer to common citizens, teaching them downloading and using mobile applications, as well as introducing different digital payment solutions in use like United Payments Interface, e-wallets, cards, PoS, Aadhaar Enabled Payment System etc.
The digital mela also offers the facility for people to open bank accounts, enrol in Adhaar, and connect existing bank accounts to Adhaar identity for Adhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS).
As per the news agency ANI, the Prime Minister is also expected to launch Aadhar pay and the re-branded version of UPI (Unified Payment Interface) and USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data).
Prime Minister Modi recently announced two award schemes named ‘Lucky Grahak Yojana’ for retail consumers and ‘Digi Dhan Vapar Yojana’ for small businesses to encourage digital payments during his 27th edition of ‘Mann ki Baat’ address.
